Totoro!

Ever since I was young, I've always been a Studio Ghibli fan... and of course, of all the Ghibli films produced, the most well-known one is probably My Neighbor Totoro!

Totoro

Totoro was filmed a loonnnggg time ago... I think it was probably one of the first few anime films I watched as a kid ~ but if you were to ask me which anime character I like the most out of all the films I've watched, I would have to say it's Totoro. =)

Being my favorite anime character, I decided to crochet Totoro.  The first thing I did was find the right yarn colors, which really wasn't that hard since all the colors I needed were white, grey, and blue.  Designing the pattern did take me a while though (I did a lot of do's, un-do's and re-do's before I finally got the shapes I wanted).  However, seeing my final products did make me feel like it was all worth the time!!

...And here they are!  I tried to recreate the scene where chibi and chu Totoro were being chased by Mei and ended up reaching Totoro sleeping inside the tree trunk.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find a place that looked exactly like the ones seen in the film.. I did try my best though ~ Also, I was too lazy to crochet Mei out.. so just imagine she's actually in the scenes chasing after chibi and chu totoro! (mouseover the pictures for descriptions).

chibi and chu Totoro sees a bridge overhead.

(Sort of) running across the bridge!

chu Totoro: where to go next?

chibi Totoro: let's go there!

TOTORO!! (without Mei)

Doesn't this scene look familiar?

Front view

And the family of Totoro!!

And that's it! Sorry for the overly-bright pictures.. I don't have a really professional camera. =P

More Totoro pictures on my flickr page if anyone's interested. =)

Thanks for visiting!

But the ears on the gray totoro on this post are more accurate. would you happen to have a pattern for the gray totoro?

hi there ~ =)

sorry but i don't actually have the pattern available as i never wrote down the pattern as i crocheted the dolls. I just kept doing a lot of undo's and redo's until i got the shape i wanted ~

but to sum it up for the ears, i started off with a magic ring with 6 sc around, then for row 2, i had 1 sc followed by 1 dc all around, and then sc for the next couple of rows until you get to the bottom where you just do 2 sc followed by 1 dc repeated around, and then dec in the end to tighten up the bottom to finish off the ear's shape. Sorry if my instructions sound confusing! I'm really bad at explaining things. =p
